Website 4 Evaluation

I like this Roald Dahl website. It is full of colour, images, animations and lively sounds. It is exciting and interesting in addition to being safe for children to browse. Some might argue that it is not particularly educational but, when used in conjunction with a study of Roald Dahl’s literature, it is an excellent resource. I gave it an average for ‘Authority’ because the authors seem to be concerned more by the desire to protect themselves against fraud or theft than by the need to give the reader reassurance in regard to their own credentials. Clearly the site is sponsored by Roald Dahl’s trust fund (he is deceased) and they intend to use it to advertise and ensure continued sales of Roald Dahl books and products. Kathleen Schrock 2002 in ‘Teaching Media Literacy in the Age of the Internet’ suggests checking to see if there is a link to the sponsoring organisation’s Web site and there are, in fact several, including links to children’s charities operating under the Roald Dahl banner.
